The Riverside County Department of Animal Services will provide free microchip and vaccination services for dog owners in the Mecca and North Shore area next week.

The outreach is planned for Nov. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club in Mecca, at 91391 66th Ave. Officials said dog owners wishing to get their pet vaccinated must be in line no later than 12:30 p.m. and that there is a limited supply.

The announcement comes as animal service personnel received an escalation of stray dog reports in the area and conducted an enforcement sweep leading to the impoundment of approximately 40 dogs on Wednesday, according to officials

Officers were able to return a number of strays back to their owners and repaired fences in the area to prevent future runaway incidents.
