Several residents were allowed to return home after being evacuated due to a natural gas line being struck during construction work in Rancho Mirage Saturday.

The rupture of the two-inch natural gas pipe was reported at 8:47 a.m. in the 71900 block of Magnesia Falls Drive, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Initially, fire officials said eight homes were evacuated, but they later downgraded the figure to four homes.

The fire department tweeted at 11:17 a.m. that evacuated residents were allowed to return home.

Crews from SoCalGas would continue repairs at two homes for the next few hours, fire officials said.

No injuries or displacements were reported.
