A punctured gas line prompted precautionary evacuations Thursday in a Moreno Valley neighborhood.
The gas leak was reported about 1 p.m. in the 12600 block of Willow Tree Avenue, near Sunnymead Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that several engine crews were sent to the location and discovered that the natural gas line had been split, but it was unclear what caused it.
The gas was shut off and residences immediately surrounding the site were evacuated, while other residents were asked to shelter in place, according to officials at the scene.
Gas Co. technicians were summoned to make repairs, which were expected to be completed by 4 p.m.
