The driver of a big rig apparently collided with a car Saturday, lost control and went off the Riverside (91) Freeway, crashing into an apartment building in Cerritos.

The crash was reported at 9:09 a.m. on the eastbound Riverside Freeway at Bloomfield Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The big rig reportedly collided with a gray Toyota Camry, left the freeway, went down an embankment and hit the front of a building at the Aria Apartment Homes, the CHP said.

Water gushed from the apartment building, according to a report from the scene.

A SigAlert was issued at 10:05 a.m. shutting down lanes 3 and 4 of the eastbound Riverside Freeway at Bloomfield while Caltrans repaired a broken guard rail and the big rig was cleared from the scene.

Any injuries resulting from the crash were minor enough that hospitalization was not required, Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters told City News Service.
