One person died and six people were hospitalized after a minivan veered into the path of a box truck Friday on Interstate 215 in Moreno Valley.

The California Highway Patrol received a report of the crash at 7:03 a.m. Friday near the southbound I-215 transition road and eastbound state Route 60.

One of the Toyota Sienna’s eight occupants died in the crash and six others were transported to a nearby hospital. An identification of the deceased was withheld pending family notification.

The sole occupant of the Isuzu truck was not injured and remained on the scene to cooperate in the investigation.

The initial investigation revealed that the minivan was driving in the same direction as the truck when it veered directly into its path, was rear-ended and spun out of control into a guardrail at a gore point between the I-215 and SR-60.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation but alcohol was not believed to be a factor.
