Riverside County reported 942 new cases of COVID-19 and 23 new virus-related deaths Tuesday, along with a slight increase in coronavirus hospitalizations.

The number of COVID patients hospitalized in the county increased to 240 Tuesday, up from 233 on Monday, according to the Riverside University Health System. The number of those patients in intensive care was 60, up from 57.

The cumulative number of COVID cases recorded since the pandemic began in March 2020 stood at 373,724, up from 372,782 on Monday.

A total of 5,395 deaths from virus-related complications have been recorded in the county in roughly the past 20 months. The fatalities are trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates and can date back a month or longer.

The number of known active virus cases countywide Tuesday was 3,822 — up 879 from Monday. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 373,724 — according to the county’s Executive Office.

Verified patient recoveries countywide were 364,507.
