Riverside County reported 334 new cases of COVID-19 and 28 new virus-related deaths Wednesday, along with a slight increase in coronavirus hospitalizations.
The number of COVID patients hospitalized in the county increased to 243 Wednesday, up from 240 on Tuesday, according to the Riverside University Health System. The number of those patients in intensive care was 60, the same as Tuesday.
The cumulative number of COVID cases recorded since the pandemic began in March 2020 stood at 374,058, up from 373,724 on Tuesday.
A total of 5,423 deaths from virus-related complications have been recorded in the county in roughly the past 20 months. The fatalities are trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates and can date back a month or longer.
The number of known active virus cases countywide Tuesday was 3,575 — down 247 from Tuesday. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 374,058 — according to the county’s Executive Office.
Verified patient recoveries countywide were 365,060.
