Riverside County reported 670 new cases of COVID-19 and six new virus-related deaths Friday, with coronavirus hospitalizations having only slightly increased.
The number of COVID patients hospitalized in the county was 245 Friday, up from 239 on Thursday, according to the Riverside University Health System. The number of those patients in intensive care was 60, down from 63 the previous day.
The cumulative number of COVID cases recorded since the pandemic began in March 2020 stood at 378,296, up from 377,626 on Thursday.
A total of 5,476 deaths from virus-related complications have been recorded in the county in roughly the past 20 months. The fatalities are trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates and can date back a month or longer.
The number of known active virus cases countywide on Friday was 3,901 — up 299 from Thursday, according to the Riverside University Health System. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 378,296 — according to the county’s Executive Office.
Verified patient recoveries countywide were 368,919.
