The number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus in Riverside County has increased by nine people to 291, according to the latest state figures. The number of those patients in intensive care was 75 on Saturday, up from 67 on Friday.

The latest figures come one day after county health officials reported six additional virus-related deaths.

According to the Riverside University Health System, the aggregate number of COVID cases recorded since the public health documentation period began in March 2020 was 382,002 on Friday, compared to 381,461 on Thursday.

A total 5,502 deaths from virus-related complications have been recorded in the past 20 months. The fatalities are trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates and can go back weeks, according to health officials.

The number of known active virus cases countywide was 4,251 on Friday, down 67 from a day ago. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 382,002 — according to the county Executive Office. Verified patient recoveries countywide are 372,249.

The RUHS does not report coronavirus data on weekends.
