The number of COVID-positive patients in Riverside County hospitals has climbed above 700, increasing by 55 people to 713, according to the latest state figures.
The number of those patients in intensive care increased to 108, up 14 from Tuesday.
The county reported an additional 19 virus-related deaths and 2,225 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing its cumulative totals to 408,646 cases and 5,608 deaths since the pandemic began in March 2020, according to the Riverside University Health System.
Fatalities are considered trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates and can go back weeks, according to health officials.
The number of known active virus cases in the county was 14,415 as of Wednesday. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 408,646. Verified patient recoveries countywide are 388,623.
