A 20-foot by 30-foot patch of tamarisk trees in Indio caught fire Wednesday.
The Riverside County Fire Department received a report of the blaze at 4:58 p.m. at the intersection of Madison Street and Indio Boulevard.
No time for containment was provided and firefighters were expected to remain on the scene until approximately 6:30 p.m., the department reported.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
