A winter storm warning is in effect in Riverside County mountains, including Idyllwild and Pine Cove, from 1 p.m. Monday until 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy wet snow is expected and drivers are advised to plan for difficult travel conditions. Snow accumulations are predicted to be 2 to 4 inches below 6,500 feet, and 12 to 18 inches of snow is expected in areas above 8,000 feet.

The National Weather Service said snow levels will rise above 7,000 feet in the afternoon, and fall to 5,500 feet late Monday evening.

Strong winds are anticipated near ridge tops and along desert slopes.

The National Weather Service warns drivers to be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times, and recommends traveling with a flashlight, food and water, and to carry chains.
