A 21-year-old man was behind bars Friday for allegedly pumping a large amount of stolen gasoline into his pickup truck in Riverside.

Christian Gomez-Soberanis of Jurupa Valley was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of grand theft and was later booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center, according to the Riverside Police Department.

He was being held on $10,000 bail.

Police said officers responded to a gas station in the 1100 block of W. La Cadena Drive to a report of a man pumping a high amount of possibly stolen diesel fuel into a white Dodge pickup truck.

Officers allegedly found that Gomez-Soberanis had pumped fuel into a tank underneath the tarp-covered bed of the truck.

Upon further investigation, they determined that he used a skimmer device to pump more gas than he had paid for and that he had stolen over 400 gallons of diesel fuel from the same pump earlier that day, according to police. He allegedly returned at night in an attempt to steal 300 more gallons.

He was also in possession of various pre-paid credit cards, according to police.
