A sedan crashed while exiting the Riverside (91) Freeway in Corona Wednesday, injuring the driver and causing the vehicle to catch fire.

The crash occurred at about 2:45 p.m. on the McKinley Street exit ramp from the eastbound 91, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said the driver of the Honda Civic apparently lost control and went over the side of the off-ramp, hitting unknown objects on the way down and triggering a blaze, which quickly engulfed the car.

The motorist, whose identity was not disclosed, was able to get out before the flames spread. He suffered unspecified minor injuries but was uncooperative when paramedics and CHP officers advised him to go by ambulance to nearby Corona Regional Medical Center, according to reports from the scene.

It was unclear whether the motorist intended to seek medical attention on his own.

Firefighters doused the vehicle fire at 3 p.m.

The exit ramp remained open.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
