A fire that broke out Wednesday behind a Valle Vista church scorched less than a quarter acre and was stopped before reaching the house of worship.
The non-injury grass fire was reported just before 2 p.m. adjacent to the Valle Vista Baptist Church in the 43300 block of Florida Avenue, near Lincoln Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said engine crews from the county and Hemet Fire Department were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a slow rate directly behind the church and a single-story residence.
Firefighters deployed around the blaze, which was confined between the church parking lot and the street, stopping the forward rate of spread at 2:10 p.m. It was completely contained minutes later.
No damage was reported.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
