One person was killed and another critically injured Wednesday when their dune buggy flipped over on a dirt road south of Banning.
The accident happened just after noon on Indian Creek Truck Trail, roughly a mile west of Highway 243, in the San Bernardino National Forest, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said the two occupants of the all-terrain vehicle were on a dirt road when the buggy overturned for reasons still under investigation.
The victims were apparently out of Calimesa, but no other details were immediately available, including their identities.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics and Idyllwild Fire Protection District personnel went to the location, pronouncing one of the parties dead at the scene.
County fire officials said that the other victim was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment of unspecified life-threatening injuries.
CHP officers and sheriff’s deputies were investigating.
