A motorist killed in a rollover crash on Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore was identified Tuesday as a 61-year-old Compton woman.
Maria Sanchez Jimenez was fatally injured at 9:43 a.m. Monday on northbound I-15, a half-mile north of Nichols Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said Jimenez was traveling at an undetermined speed when she apparently lost control of her sedan, causing it to overturn in the fast lane.
Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location minutes later and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
CHP officers closed the No. 1 lane for over two hours to conduct a preliminary investigation.
It was raining in the area at the time, but it was unclear whether wet conditions contributed to the crash. It remains under investigation, and anyone with information was asked to contact the CHP’s Riverside office at 951-637-8000.
