The Riverside County Department of Waste Resources announced Thursday it will offer a free Master Composter Certificate Training program in Palm Desert for residents who are interested in a more advanced look at home composting.
Starting March 9, in-person training classes will be held in Palm Desert from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays for residents interested in a hands-on group experience, according to county officials.
“Books and study materials will be provided by the department,” county officials wrote in a statement. “(An) instructor will guide students through the course and students will build group compost piles for study and build their own vermicomposting bin.”
A virtual online course will begin April 4, and participants will have up to three months to study and complete the course through online study materials and quizzes before they earn their certificate, according to county officials.
The certificate program will offer participants a more advanced look at the variety of methods that can be used in the home composting process, county officials said. They will also receive basic knowledge on the composting process and about the waste stream in Riverside County.
Additional information, including about registration for both courses, were available at rcwaste.org/community-outreach/free-classes.
