The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County surpassed $5 Saturday, rising 4.1 cents to $5.021, its highest amount since Nov. 10.

The average price has risen for 12 consecutive days and is 11.4 cents more than one week ago, 29.7 cents more than one month ago and 24.4 cents more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $1.352 since rising to a record $6.373 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The national average price dropped one-tenth of a cent for the second consecutive day, to $3.536. It is two-tenths of a cent more than one week ago, 21.7 cents more than one month ago and 4.8 cents more than one year ago. The national average price has dropped $1.48 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.

“Uncertainty of the impact of Ukraine’s targeting of Russia’s oil infrastructure likely spiked oil prices recently,” said Andrew Gross, an AAA national public relations manager. “But those concerns have abated somewhat for now, and gas prices are settling into a pattern similar to last year when the usual seasonal increase was slow and steady.”
