The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County rose for the 20th consecutive day Sunday, increasing 1.6 cents to $5.232, its highest amount since Oct. 30.

The average price is 20.2 cents more than one week ago, 43.1 cents more than one month ago and 42 cents more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $1.141 since rising to a record $6.373 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The national average price rose for the fifth consecutive day, inching up two-tenths of a cent to $3.593. It is 5.8 cents more than one week ago, 19.6 cents more than one month ago and 1.2 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.423 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.

“Renewed Ukrainian attacks on Russia’s oil infrastructure and increasing tension in the Middle East spiked oil prices recently,” AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said Thursday. “And with the cost of oil accounting for roughly 60% of what we pay at the pump, there will likely be some upward pressure on prices.”
