New Kids on the Block will perform at Acrisure Arena Saturday evening as part of “The Magic Summer Tour,” supported by Paula Abdul and DJ Jazzy Jeff.
The multi-Platinum group achieved near-instant stardom after Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Jonathan Knight, Jordan Knight and Danny Wood formed a boy band in 1984. They took home Billboard Music Award and multiple American Music Awards in 1990, as well as earning a Grammy Award nomination for the music video for “Hangin’ Tough.”
The band also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2014.
This is New Kids on the Block’s 11th headlining tour and their first in a decade. Supporting acts Paula Abdul, a Grammy Award-winner herself, and DJ Jazzy Jeff, formerly one-half of DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince with Will Smith, have opened at every show so far.
The 7 p.m. Coachella Valley show follows previous California performances in Highland, Wheatland, Mountain View and Inglewood. New Kids on the Block will follow up Saturday’s concert with a performance in Phoenix Monday before continuing eastward through Arizona and New Mexico.
