Authorities Tuesday were investigating a shooting that caused a lockdown at Della S. Lindley Elementary School in Thousand Palms.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Palm Desert station responded to reports of a shooting in the 31000 block of Roberts Road at approximately 2:45 p.m. Monday, according to the department. The school, which is located at 31495 Robert Road, was placed on lockdown.
In a statement released Monday evening, the department said multiple witnesses reported localized gunshots and “several subjects running in various directions.”
Deputies established a perimeter and continued to investigate, with fewer than 100 students remaining on campus within an hour of the witnesses’ reports, according to the Desert Sun.
Deputies said they located “evidence of a shooting,” but did not initially find a suspect or victim. A local hospital later informed the department about an emergency room patient who had suffered gunshot wounds, according to the statement. Investigators from the Palm Desert station assumed the investigation from there.
No arrests were made as of Monday evening.
Anyone with information about the day’s events was encouraged to contact Investigator A. Brown at the Palm Desert sheriff’s station at 760-836-1600.
