A windblown dust advisory in the Coachella Valley remains in effect until Monday.

The advisory is effective from 4 a.m. Saturday until noon Monday due to wind gusts of up to 40 mph expected in the area. according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

Affected cities include Banning, Cathedral City and Indio.

“Gusty winds are causing blowing dust with particle pollution levels in the good to hazardous Air Quality Index categories in parts of the Coachella Valley,” the SCAQMD announced.

The public was advised to limit exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed and avoiding vigorous physical activity.

Strong winds were expected to peak Sunday, when gusts of up to 65 mph were predicted to hit the Coachella Valley.
