The Riverside County Fire Department’s planned assistance with a prescribed burn in the Cleveland National Forest was canceled Tuesday due to recent heavy rains causing equipment access issues.

The operation, intended to clear dead and excess vegetation to reduce wildfire risk, was to take place north of Temescal Valley.

The rains made the operation no longer feasible due to “equipment access issues,” according to a department statement.

Officials said the controlled burn would be attempted again in the future.

The total acreage intended for the operation was not specified.
