A woman and child were injured Wednesday in a collision between a big rig and car on Interstate 215 at the north end of Perris.
The crash happened just after 3 p.m. on northbound I-215, less than a half-mile north of the Ramona Expressway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said that a tractor-trailer and Honda Civic impacted at the location, causing the sedan to become slightly wedged underneath the semi.
Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location within a few minutes and initiated a cut-and-rescue operation. However, firefighters were able to open a door without cutting into the vehicle, and the adult and child, whose identities were not released, were safely extricated, according to officials at the scene.
Both victims were taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment of unspecified minor injuries, the CHP said.
Two of three freeway lanes were initially shut down, but officers quickly reopened one of the lanes, leaving only one closed as of 3:40 p.m.
The cause of the collision was under investigation.
