The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County rose Sunday for the seventh consecutive day, increasing 3.8 cents to $4.672.
The average price has risen 17.8 cents over the past seven days, including 5.8 cents Saturday, its largest increase since April 5, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.
The average price is 4.7 cents more than one week ago but 34.9 cents less than one year ago. It has dropped $1.701 since rising to a record $6.373 on Oct. 5, 2022.
A six-day streak of increases to the national average price totaling 3.3 cents ended when it was unchanged, remaining at $3.159. It is 3.3 cents more than one week ago and 4.5 cents higher than one month ago but 37.7 cents less than one year ago.
The national average price has dropped $1.857 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
Gas prices typically start going up this time of year and peak during the summer. The sharply lower price from one year ago is “due to tepid gasoline demand and weak crude oil prices,” according to the AAA.
