A convicted felon accused of seriously assaulting and holding a woman against her will in his Blythe home was charged Wednesday with assault resulting in great bodily injury and other offenses.
Arturo Salcido Aguilar, 47, was arrested Friday following a three-day Riverside County Sheriff’s Department investigation.
Along with assault, Aguilar is charged with burglary, false imprisonment and making criminal threats.
The defendant, who is being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Benoit Detention Center, was slated to make his initial court appearance Wednesday afternoon at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
According to sheriff’s Sgt. Jose Munoz, late Tuesday afternoon, patrol deputies were called to a residence in the 7500 block of Highway 95 regarding an alleged assault on a woman, whose identity was not disclosed.
“The victim reported being strangled and was prevented from leaving the residence to seek help,” Munoz said.
The woman was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a regional trauma center and expected to make a full recovery.
Based on the victim’s statements, detectives determined that Aguilar was the alleged perpetrator, and they initiated a countywide search for him.
Munoz said that on Friday evening, the sheriff’s Special Enforcement Team tracked the defendant to the 400 block of Chanslor Way in Blythe, where a traffic enforcement stop was conducted and the felon was taken into custody without incident.
Information regarding the relationship between the defendant and victim, if any, was not disclosed, nor were any other details connected with the alleged attack.
Court records show Aguilar has documented prior convictions for burglary, receiving stolen property and felony evading.
