Riverside firefighters responded Friday to an apparent ammonia leak at a commercial building in the city.

The incident was reported at 6:18 a.m. in a warehouse at 1001 Columbia Ave., according to Riverside Fire Department spokesman Chuck Tasker said.

“Initial reports from the first-arriving engine company indicate approximately four individuals may have been exposed to what appears to be an ammonia leak,” Tasker said.

“A full HazMat response has been initiated,” he said. “Resources assigned to the incident include two engines, one truck, four AMR ambulances, and the City of Riverside Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team, and Fire Prevention.”

Four ambulances responded to the scene but officials later reported that 11 people suffered minor injuries.
