The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County dropped for the fifth consecutive day Saturday, decreasing 1.7 cents to $4.756.

The average price is 5.4 cents less than one week ago, 24.3 cents more than one month ago, and 52.7 cents less than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $1.617 since rising to a record $6.373 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The decreases follow a run of 14 increases in 15 days totaling 32.2 cents that boosted the average price to its highest amount since June 8.

“Oil Price Information Service reports that despite ongoing planned and unplanned maintenance at Southern California refineries, wholesale gasoline prices dropped substantially on news that large supplies of imported gasoline are arriving soon,” said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager.

The national average price dropped for the seventh time in the last eight days, decreasing 1.4 cents to $3.196. It is 6.6 cents less than one week ago, 11.6 cents more than one month ago, and 43.8 cents less than one year ago. The national average price has dropped $1.82 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
