The Coachella Valley Journalism Foundation has extended its photojournalism exhibit through the end of the week, showcasing work by local photojournalists.
A closing party is scheduled for Saturday from 1 until 5 p.m. at the Impell Gallery, located at 610 S. Belardo Road, in the Lofts Arts District behind the Sun Center shopping complex.
The exhibit, Desert Images, is hosted by the CVJF in partnership with the City of Palm Springs. It has been open daily for public viewing from 1 to 5 p.m. since May 10.
“The exhibit is designed to bring public attention to the important role photojournalism plays in helping to tell the community’s story,” president of CVJF Randy Lovely said in a statement.
Organizers said the collection features images of public figures, including Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Jamie Foxx, Nicole Kidman, Donald Trump and Barack Obama.
The images were contributed by local media outlets, including The Desert Sun, Coachella Valley Independent, Palm Springs Life and El Informador De Valle.
“Funds raised by Desert Images will go toward launching an internship specifically focused on visual journalism,” organizers said.
The internship program will place aspiring visual journalists into local newsrooms for on-the-job training.
Organizers said framed photographs will be available for purchase online at www.zeffy.com/ticketing/cvjf-newsmakers-photo-shop.
