A South Coast Air Quality Management District windblown dust advisory for the Coachella Valley remains in effect Sunday, according to the agency.

The advisory, effective as of 3 p.m. Saturday, will be active until at least 5 a.m. Monday due to gusty winds expected to elevate the levels of particle pollution, resulting in an air quality index in the unhealthy category or higher.

Affected areas include Idyllwild, Desert Hot Springs, Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage Indio, La Quinta and Coachella, where gusts of up to 60 mph were expected.

The SCAQMD advised people in the affected areas to limit exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors close or seeking alternate shelter as well as avoiding rigorous physical activity.

Air quality can vary by hour and location depending on wind conditions.

Current air quality by location is available at aqmd.gov/AQImap.
