Two motorists suspected of driving under the influence of narcotics, 13 drivers operating a vehicle unlicensed, while suspended or revoked and one driver with a felony warrant were arrested during a DUI/driver’s license operation Saturday in Riverside.

The checkpoint was conducted from 8 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday near Central Avenue, east of Riverside Avenue, said Sgt. Daniel Macias of the Riverside Police Department’s Traffic Bureau.

In addition to the above arrests, another motorist was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and 16 additional citations were issued to other motorists, Macias said. A total of 1,217 vehicles were screened in the operation.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads, the department said.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
