California Highway Patrol investigators Friday asked anyone with information regarding a collision between a dirt bike and SUV in Woodcrest that killed the 14-year-old rider to come forward.
Gavin Carrillo of Riverside was fatally injured in the crash that occurred just after 6 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Gardner and Krameria avenues, according to the CHP.
Officer Javier Navarro said that Carrillo was westbound on Krameria and entered the intersection at the same time as a Toyota 4Runner going northbound on Gardner.
“A crash occurred in the intersection, which is controlled by stop signs,” Navarro said.
Officers are still uncertain which party may have failed to yield. It was also unclear if the motorcycle was legal to be driven on county roadways, but at 14 years of age, Carrillo would not have been licensed.
The boy was found underneath the SUV when Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived. They pronounced him dead at the scene.
The Toyota driver was not injured. The motorist, whose identity was not disclosed, was questioned but not arrested.
Anyone with information was urged to contact the CHP’s Riverside office at 951-324-7210.
