The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County rose Monday for the fifth consecutive day, increasing 1.3 cents to $4.641.
The average price has increased 13.4 cents over the past five days, including 1.6 cents Sunday and 7.6 cents Friday, its largest increase since Sept. 29, 2023, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.
The increases are the result of “some planned and unplanned refinery maintenance and stronger futures expectations for gas prices,” according to Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager, citing information from the Oil Price Information Service.
The streak of increases follows a run of eight decreases in nine days totaling 6.8 cents.
The Riverside County average price is 11.5 cents more than one week ago, 3.9 cents higher than one month ago and 26.3 cents greater than one year ago. It has dropped $1.732 since rising to a record $6.373 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The national average price was unchanged, remaining at $3.036 after back-to-back decreases of two-tenths of a cent. It is 1.6 cents less than one week ago, 11.7 cents lower than one month ago and 6.7 cents below what it was one year ago.
