The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County rose for the 11th consecutive day Sunday, increasing eight-tenths of a cent to $4.766.
The average price has increased 25.9 cents over the past 11 days, including 2 cents Saturday, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.
“The Phillips 66 refinery in Los Angeles is closing at the end of this year and stopped processing crude oil in mid-October, and that loss of capacity along with some planned and unplanned refinery maintenance caused some supply concerns,” Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager, said in a statement released Thursday.
“Usually when gas prices spike, Southern California receives additional imported supplies from Asia and Canada to make up the shortfall. Prices should reverse course and head downward once that happens.”
The Riverside County average price is 13.8 cents more than one week ago, 15.2 cents more than one month ago and 41.2 cents more than one year ago. It has dropped $1.607 since rising to a record $6.373 on Oct. 5, 2022.
The national average price dropped three-tenths of a cent to $3.07. It is 3.4 cents more than one week ago, but 4.1 cents less than one month ago and 2 cents less than one year ago. It has dropped $1.946 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
