A tractor-trailer and at least four other vehicles collided Tuesday on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley, forcing a closure of all westbound lanes and causing a miles-long traffic jam.
The crash happened at 3:33 p.m. on the westbound 60 at Valley Way, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said that the semi, several sedans and a pickup collided in the middle of the freeway, but no other details were immediately available.
The big rig stalled, blocking at least three of five traffic lanes, while wreckage from the other vehicles was hurled into adjacent lanes, the CHP said, resulting in obstructions blocking the entire westbound side of the freeway.
A SigAlert was issued at 3:54 p.m. because of the ensuing traffic jam extending south of the 60/91/215 interchange.
Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location just after 4 p.m. and found all of the motorists involved in the collision outside of their vehicles. Three of them suffered minor injuries and were taken to Riverside Community Hospital in stable condition.
As of 4:25 p.m., the CHP was attempting to arrange a heavy-duty tow truck to remove the tractor-trailer.
There was no word on when westbound lanes might be clear.
