The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Riverside County rose three-tenths of a cent Monday to $6.085 after three consecutive decreases totaling 1.6 cents.
The average price fell 1.6 cents over the past three days, including eight-tenths of a cent Sunday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 6 cents more than one week ago, 24.4 cents higher than one month ago and $1.43 above what it was one year ago.
The average price has risen $1.534 since the joint U.S./Israel attack on Iran on Feb. 28, moving within 28.8 cents of the record $6.373 set on Oct. 5, 2022.
The national average price dropped for the fourth consecutive day following a 16-day streak of increases totaling 54.8 cents, decreasing two-tenths of a cent to $4.52. It has dropped 3.8 cents over the past four days, including eight-tenths of a cent Sunday.
The national average price is 6.3 cents more than one week ago, 38.5 cents higher than one month ago and $1.385 above what it was one year ago. The average price has risen $1.538 since the attack on Iran, moving within 49.6 cents of the record $5.016 set June 14, 2022.
“Average gasoline prices declined in just six states over the last week, led by the Great Lakes region, where motorists in states like Michigan and Ohio saw prices fall sharply, while Indiana experienced even steeper relief after the state temporarily waived both its excise and use taxes on gasoline,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, which provides real-time gas price information from more than 150,000 stations, said in a statement.
“Those declines helped pull the national average lower by roughly eight cents over the last several days after oil prices eased mid-week on optimism that the U.S. and Iran could reach a deal. However, that optimism has since largely unraveled, with talks appearing to stall and President (Donald) Trump signaling the latest proposal is unacceptable, helping push oil prices higher again in Sunday electronic trade.
“As a result, many states could see another round of price cycling in the days ahead, potentially sending the national average toward the $4.65-per-gallon mark if oil continues climbing. Should geopolitical tensions escalate further, fuel prices could rise even more sharply in the weeks ahead.”
