A windblown dust advisory was issued in the Coachella Valley Saturday, due to gusty winds expected in the area.

The advisory was effective from 2 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Monday, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

Air Quality Index levels were expected to reach the very unhealthy category due to high-particle pollution in the Coachella Valley on Saturday.

The AQI was expected to remain in the very unhealthy category until Monday morning. Winds were expected to range from 15 to 25 mph and gusts as high as 35 mph.

The SCAQMD advised the public in the area to limit exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed, avoiding vigorous activity and running air conditioners or air purifier.

Air quality can vary by hour and location depending on wind conditions. Updated air quality information was accessible at www.aqmd.gov/AQImap.
