Roadway and intersection construction along Monterey Avenue intended to improve safety and accessibility was scheduled to begin next month in Palm Desert.
Construction will start Aug. 3 in the northbound lanes of Monterey Avenue between Gerald Ford and Interstate 10 overpass. City officials said work between Dinah Shore Drive and I-10 will affect both northbound and southbound lanes.
The project will improve the aging roadways, including curbs, sidewalks, crosswalks, traffic signals and enhancements to overall traffic flow and intersection safety.
Motorists and nearby businesses may experience temporary lane closures and traffic delays, changes to traffic patterns and turn access, construction noise and intermittent modifications to business and driveway access.
Motorists were encouraged to allow additional travel time and use alternates routes when available.
In addition, lane closures and construction schedules may change based on weather, field conditions and project needs, officials said.
