A family-oriented event planned Saturday by the Riverside County Department of Child Support Services will feature free backpacks for kids returning to school, complimentary haircuts and health checkups, as well as prizes.

“Our mission goes beyond child support payments — it’s about making sure every child has the foundation to succeed,” DCSS Director Nicole Windom-Hurd said. “By bringing backpacks, haircuts, healthcare information and dozens of community partners under one roof, we’re removing barriers and reminding families across Riverside County that they don’t have to navigate these challenges alone.”

The agency’s Resource Fair is set for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the DCSS administrative office, 2081 Iowa Ave. Some of the activities will be outdoors.

According to officials, backpacks filled with school supplies are slated to be distributed to youths, who will also be invited to receive free physical examinations in preparation for engaging in athletics during the academic year.

“Families can enjoy free haircuts, snacks and refreshments, prizes and giveaways,” DCSS said.

Agency staff will be on hand to furnish information regarding employment opportunities, housing assistance, veterans services, utility aid, discounted or subsidized dental care and where to obtain comp legal assistance.

A blood drive is additionally planned to help fill regional blood banks, where supplies are in constant demand, officials said.

Those interested were asked to consider registering in advance at www.surveymonkey.com/r/2026AwarenessMonthRSVP.

Registration, however, is not required to attend the event.
