Desert Water Agency customers’ will be able to receive a $300 credit via a program aimed at helping customers pay their water bills, it was announced Monday.
“At Desert Water Agency, we understand that our customers may face hardships that make paying their bills difficult,” agency Board President Kristin Bloomer said in a statement. “We hope that by increasing the amount of assistance available through our Help2Others program, we can ease some of that burden.”
Help2Others is a customer assistance program that provides financial credits on residential water bills to low-income households in order to avoid service shutoffs. In partnership with Inland SoCal Way, it was funded through contributions from community donations and other resources.
Eligible customers can receive a one-time credit of $300 per 12-month period, which officials said can cover roughly two months of an average residential water bill.
During a June 16 board meeting, the board of directors approved an increase of the assistance amount from $200 to $300, which went into effect on July 1.
“We understand that costs are rising all around us, including our own water rates. For some of our customers, this can make paying their water bill an even bigger challenge when they area already struggling. We want them to know support is available,” DWA General Manager Esther Saenz said in a statement.
Desert Water Agency is a non-profit agency that provides water service to Palm Springs and parts of Cathedral City.
