Gradual cooling was expected to continue in Riverside County through Wednesday, forecasters said Sunday.
Sunday’s temperatures reached 97 degrees in the downtown Riverside and Hemet areas, 92 in Temecula, 108 in Coachella and 106 in Palm Springs, making the county about 4 degrees cooler than Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Downtown Riverside was expected to drop to 93 on Monday and 91 Tuesday, according to the NWS. Palm Springs was expected to be 102 on Monday and 100 Tuesday.
Overnight lows will stay in the 80s in the desert areas this week, and in the low-to-mid 60s in the western areas of the county.
The second half of the week will see temperatures rise slightly, forecasters said. Temperatures throughout the county were expected to increase by about 3 degrees by the weekend, according to the NWS.
“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes,” the NWS advised.
