Cooler temperatures, higher humidity and recent rainfall led the Riverside County Fire Department Monday to lift the burn permit suspensions and reopen designated `Hazardous Hiking Areas’ throughout the county.
“Residents with valid agricultural and residential burn permits may resume burning on permissible burn days: according to a fire department statement. “Agricultural burns must be inspected by … (the fire department) prior to burning until the end of peak fire season.”
Residents conducting permitted burns were reminded to follow all regulations and maintain control of their fires.
“Individuals can be held civilly and/or criminally liable for fires that escape their control,” the fire department said.
Residents must verify that it is a permissible burn day before burning by contacting the South Coast Air Quality Management District at 866-966-3293 or visiting its website for burn status updates.
