Bicyclists can pretend to be Rose Queens on Sunday, when the world-famous Rose Parade route is set aside for non-motorized use Sunday, in the first local CicLAvia outside Los Angeles.
Colorado Boulevard will see thousands of people-powered bicycles, skates, baby buggies or simply on foot for the free, 3.5-mile event. It is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cars going north or south will be allowed to cross east-west Colorado Boulevard, and legs of the car-free zone will reach up selected side streets to parks and historical architecture, organizers said.
The route also connects to the Memorial and Del Mar Metro Gold Lines stations, enabling participants to have a car-free or “car-lite” day, officials said.
Activities along the route will include an all ages mixed media art project at the Amory Center for the Arts, yoga and music in the bandshell at Levitt Pavilion and the John Muir High School’s Mighty Mustang Drum Corps strolling along Raymond Avenue.
