“The Rose Parade is a timeless tradition on New Year’s Day and the Lakers are enthusiastic to celebrate the start of 2016 with the rest of the country in this fashion,” Lakers President Jeanie Buss said.
According to the team, the float will feature a large Lakers logo, a replica of the NBA championship trophy and an animated basketball circling a rim, “recreating the moment of ultimate suspense in the final seconds of a closely contested basketball game.”
The float will also feature fireworks, streamers, 16 stars representing the team’s championships and 10 jerseys of Laker “greats.” Unspecified team guests will ride aboard the float, while the Laker Girls will perform alongside it.
The float will feature more than 20,000 Florigene Moonlite carnations and Kerio roses, matching the team’s purple and gold colors, along with Calypso mokara orchids, cattleya orchids, blue vanda orchids, oncidium orchids, forsythia, gerbera daisies, Asiatic lilies and button chrysanthemums.
