UCLA junior Thomas Welsh was among 10 watch list finalists for the 2017 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award announced by the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame.

The 7-foot Welsh is averaging 10.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. He is eighth in the Pac-12 Conference in field goal percentage at 56.5 percent and fifth in blocked shots per game, 1.7.

The other nine watch list finalists are Tacko Fall (Central Florida), Ethan Happ (Wisconsin), Josh Hawkinson (Washington State), Przemek Karnowski (Gonzaga), Tim Kempton (Lehigh), Jock Landale (Saint Mary’s), Yante Maten (Georgia), Eric Mika (BYU) and Justin Patton (Creighton).

Five finalists will be announced in March. The award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show at The Novo by Microsoft at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles April 7.

A national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates in October, then narrowed the list to 10.
