Former U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Sergio Cuevas will be honored as the Military Hero of the Game Saturday evening when the Los Angeles Dodgers face the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium.

Cuevas joined the Marine Corps in 2007 and served tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. He now works in the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services where he supports children thriving in safe families and supportive communities.

He is a member of Merging Vets and Players, a program designed to address challenges that many combat veterans and professional athletes face when transitioning from the military or professional sports into civilian life. The veterans and athletes participate in weekly physical fitness and peer-to-peer support sessions.

Members of the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks will throw the ceremonial first pitch, one day before their home opener.
