Philadelphia Phillies President Andy MacPhail and award-winning baseball writer Peter Gammons will be among the honorees at the 17th annual “In the Spirit of the Game” Jan. 11 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, benefiting The Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation.
MacPhail will receive the night’s most prestigious honor, the Allan H. “Bud” Selig Executive Leadership Award, which will be presented by Selig, the former Major League Baseball commissioner.
Gammons, an MLB Network insider and a contributor to sports news website The Athletic, will receive the “In the Spirit of the Game Award,” organizers announced Wednesday.
Previously announced honorees include Hall of Famers Don Sutton and Jeff Bagwell and Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin.
Talk show host Larry King will serve as a master of ceremonies.
The Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation was started by former player agent Dennis Gilbert to assist baseball scouts in need.
