One person was killed and another critically injured Friday morning when the vehicle they were in went off the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Van Nuys, crashed in a field and burst into flames.
The crash occurred about 3:40 a.m. near the Victory Boulevard exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle came to rest in a field near the Woodley Park Archery Range and one person trapped inside the vehicle died and another was ejected and rushed to a hospital.
Details of what led up to the crash were not immediately available.
The Nos. 3 and 4 southbound lanes of the San Diego Freeway at Victory Boulevard were closed until further notice.
