A field for people to play futsal, a sport similar to soccer, has been installed at Normandie Park in Pico-Union, Councilman Gil Cedillo announced Wednesday.
Cedillo worked with the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks to get the synthetic field installed at a cost of about $250,000, which was covered by Community Development Block Grant funds.
The field will be available for children and adults to use once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
“I am pleased to secure the funds to build this much-needed futsal field at Normandie Park,” Cedillo said. “We are providing much needed recreational facilities for children, youth and families in the Pico-Union neighborhood.”
Futsal’s main difference from soccer is that there are two teams of five players instead of 11. It is often played on an indoor hard court.
